FanSportNET.com NFL Pick Em Challenge Week 10

In week 10, the Indianpolis Colts beat the New England Patriots on a last minute blunder by Belichick and the New Orleans Saints beat the Rams to stay undefeated!!  In week 10, it seemed like everyone stayed with the "Safe Pick" so I decided to eliminate the upset king this week and just give a shout out to the person with the best record for the week. There were six upsets and the most that were picked by a single person was three. PITIFUL!!!!! Anyhow, Please double check your picks and let me know if I made any mistakes. For those of you who forgot to make your picks last week, you were assigned all of the home teams! The home teams went 10-5. Please try to remember your picks!!!!  Again, please make sure to check my math because it is possible that I could have made some mistakes. Also, send me any corrections and I will update your record. For the first time since the start  of the season, there are 16 games.  In week 10, 3 out of the 5 teams that were favored by less than three points lost. That's 60% . Below are the games where the teams are a favorite by 3 points or less for Week 10:

INNO'S TAKE: KOBE IS STILL DOING HIS THING

DARIO AKA THE REALIST WRITES:

Kobe is shooting 50% from the field .

INNO WRITES:

Kobe is great...I don't understand how Lebron gets annointed and Kobe's is still doing his thing AND won a championship

DARIO AKA THE REALIST WRITES:

Lebron is great too but no rings!!!!! He has 0 Rings with all that ROC talk, billionare talk, and free agency lingering. The thing about Lebron is he puts up ridiculous numbers. I don't understand how he averages 28.2 points, 50%FG, 40% 3PT, 76%FT, 1.70 steals, 7.3 rebounds and 7.4 assists and the dude is 24. He is literally a MONSTER!!!!!!

Kobe is "ringing" it these days though. He is chasing MJ. I have to believe that he is not worrying about Lebron. Right now, Kobe has to be the front runner for the MVP. 33.5 point 2.28 steals, 50% FG, 84% FT, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists (assists are down because he has to score more with Gasol out) and his team is 7-1. He is shooting around 24 shots right now. He will get back to around 20 shots when Gasol get back. Kobe shot 6.9 Free throws a game last year. Right now, he is shooting 9.4 free throws a game. Also, he attempted 4.1 threes a game and he is only attempting 1.9 this year. Kobe is re-designing his game to be more efficient.

If Boston and LA get to the Finals, the championship is going to be classic like the old days. CLASSIC!!!!!!!!

FanSportNET.com NFL Pick Em Challenge Week 9

In week 9, the Indianpolis Colts beat The Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints beat the Carolina Panthers to stay undefeated!!  This seems to be the best two teams in the NFL. Tampa Bay got their first win over the Green Bay Packers. I had inside knowledge that Josh Freeman's statistics looked a lot better than they really were as Mr. Riggio was at the game cheering on his Packers.

The Steelers win again and the Bengals win again. They play each other in PIT so it should be an interesting matchup. Please double check your picks and let me know if I made any mistakes. For those of you who forgot to make your picks last week, you were assigned all of the home teams! The home teams went 8-5. Please try to remember your picks!!!!  Again, please make sure to check my math because it is possible that I could have made some mistakes. Also, send me any corrections and I will update your record. For the first time in a few weeks there are 15 games as the Giants and the Texans are the only teams on a bye. ALSO, THERE IS A THURSDAY GAME SO REMEMBER TO GET THAT PICK IN BEFORE THE GAME ON THURSDAY. In week 8, all the 3 point or less favorites lost!!!!! Wow!!!! Below are the games where the teams are a favorite by 3 points or less for Week 9:

DA WIRE: Detroit Pistons, Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Red Wings

THE REALIST WRITES

Okay, let's take a look a the simple ones. The Detroit Tigers cracked under the pressure and let the Minnesota Twins get into the playoffs.

The Red Wings let Sid The Kid get his first title in a seven game series.

The Lions are well................. The Lions.

Okay, now we get to the next level. Mr. Jason "Da Wire" Dwyer's last prediction on his beloved Michigan Wolverines was that they would win 7 to 8 games. Michigan plays @ Wisconsin and they play Ohio State and they are are 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Hopefully, they beat Purdue who beat Ohio State a few weeks back. Could they be looking at not being in a bowl game? I hate to say I told you so but I told you so about Rich Rodriquez. I am on the Forcier and Robinson bandwagon but not the coach my man. Michigan can possibly only win five games and be 5-7 but more likely, they will be 6-6. That is pathetic. See, I like Michigan but I don't like Rodriquez. There is something bad about a coach who has questionable integrity. He just looks like he is lost and does not know what to do.

Lastly and more importantly, the subject that I will be spending the most time on is the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons are 2-2 right now. They lose to Oklahoma City and Milwaukee. WTF? Both of those teams won't make the playoffs. They beat Memphis who will not make the playoffs. However, they had a very impressive victory over Orlando who was previously undefeated. They played that three guard alignment of Gordon, Bynum and Stuckey and got 63 points from them. Also, they got to the basket like Dwyer said and got Howard into foul trouble. Dwight Howard only played 17 minutes and they only won by 4 points so don't count on that being a trend against the Magic. Ben Gordon will have games where he shoots clutch but he will also have those pathetic shooting games. Charlie Headband-nueva is only averaging 9.8 points and 5 rebounds and shooting 34.2% from the field. Are you kidding me? His excuse is his hamstring. My advice would be to sit out and let it heal all the way before you play. I will stay with my thought that he is not worth the money he got. The inconsistency of Charlie and Gordon will cause the Pistons to barely squeak in the playoffs or maybe miss the playoffs. I believe the six teams below will make the playoffs so that leaves two spots for Detroit, Chicago, Charlotte, Toronto and Philadelphia.

Eastern Conference Playoff Teams

1) Boston
2) Orlando
3) Cleveland
4) Atlanta
5) Miami
6) Washington

Jason DA WIRE Dwyer WRITES:

I hate to agree but the tigers did collapse under pressure again, that is the second time they have done that I think they may need to make a coaching change. I don’t understand why Leyland rests his studs so much. You need to win as many games as possible and to keep sitting the big guys makes no sense especially down the stretch.

The Red Wings can’t win all of the time. I think they have earned the right to have a down year.

The Wolverines are on the right track. Everybody is expecting them to be immediate Big Ten Title contenders. It takes time to get the players that he wants in his system. The first recruiting class was primarily Lloyd Carr’s. So last year was the first year he had a full year to recruit and I think he did a pretty good job. He has two QB’s who fit the system. Forcier  raised the bar after the first 4 games but the truth of the matter is that he is still only a freshman. He has played that way since the 4-0 start. They already look better on the field this year than they did last year. They beat ND, they had a chance against MSU, they had a chance against Iowa and the game against Illinois would have been different had they scored when they got the ball down to the 1 yard line. The score would have been 20-7 and that would have crushed the spirits of the Illini. However, Illinois played stout defense on the 1 yard line and totally turned the game around. I think they beat Purdue but other than that I don’t know.

And finally about the Pistons, they are 2-3 with Rip playing in only 2 of those games and they were without Prince the last two games. Yeah, they lost OKC but they are the same team that took LA to overtime. They are a team on the rise and I think they make the playoffs. The Milwaukee game was just a bad lost. However, teams lose to bad teams all of the time. The trend will continue against the Magic like it has for the past few years because they have the magic’s number. Charlie Villanueva will be fine as he is typically a slow starter and he also missed pretty much the whole preseason so he is still in preseason mode. You also state at the end of your email that the pistons might squeak into the playoffs or maybe miss the playoffs  but in an earlier email you said they will not make the 8th seed in the playoffs. So which one is it “Dario Favre”?

Not only that but Washington can’t make the playoffs twice. And let’s be real, Charlotte isn’t making the playoffs.

THE REALIST WRITES:

I am sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Anyhow, I will keep it real and say that I am wavering a little on the Pistons prediction.

I did say in an earlier email that they would not make the playoffs because of Toronto. However, after looking at home the divsions again, it might be hard for three people from the Atlantic Division to go to the playoffs.  Here is my updated predictions:

Division Winners

Atlantic
Boston

Central
Cleveland

Southeast
Orlando

"Wildcards"
Miami
Atlanta
Washington
Philadelphia

That leaves Chicago or Detroit by default to get in as the lower seed. Chicago does not have enough veterans so Detroit squeaks in. That is what I am sticking with unless there is a big trade at the trade deadline. Yes, I did make a mistake and put Washington in twice but although rarely, I do make mistakes sometimes. I wish you could say the same thing for the YANKEES though as they are without fault.

INNO'S TAKE: SAINTS LEADING RECEIVER WEEK 9

Saint Leading Receiver in Yards Each Game

DET@NO -  Henderson 5 rec 103 yards 1 TD

NO@PHI-  Colston 8 rec 98 yards 2 TD

NO@BUF-  Colston 4 rec 67 yards

NYJ@NO -  Thomas 4 rec 46 yards

NYG@NO-  Colston 8 rec 166 yards 1 TD

NO@MIA-  Shockey 4 rec 105 yards

ATL@NO-   Colston 6 rec 85 yards 1 TD

Colston has lead the team in receiving yards in 4 of seven games. I don't like that. What happen to the balance we are suppose to have at the receiver position? When is Meachem, Bush and Moore going to have their turn? Carolina has the number #1 pass defense in the league and the #24 rush defense in the league. Looking over their schedule, Carolina has not played any really good passing teams except for Philly but McNabb got hurt in that game. They did play Arizona last week and but they gave up 242 yards to Warner which is 80 plus yards above their average. It is possible that teams simply run the ball all day on them and don't have to pass. Who knows? Here is a look at who has been the leading receiver against Carolina each week:

CAR vs. PHI - TE Brent Celek (37 yards)
CAR vs. ATL - TE Gonzalez  (71 yards)
CAR vs. DAL - TE Witten ( 77 yards)
CAR vs. WAS - WR Moss  (44 yards)
CAR vs. TB - WR Stoughter (65 yards)
CAR vs. BUF - WR  Lee Evans (75 yards)
CAR vs. ARI - WR Fitzgerald (66 yards)

With all the information, who do you think will lead the Saints in
receiving next week?

Scoring System - +1 for each point off rec and yard , -5 for picking right receiver, -2 for touchdowns. Person with the least amount of points wins.

THE B-O-B REPORT: Saints Chatting

DARIO AKA THE REALIST WRITES:

Lou,
The Saints are still not sacking the quarterback nearly enough for me. The Saints only have 14 sacks which is tied for 14th in the league. It is weird that we are producing so many turnovers without getting to the quarterback. It has to come back to bite us sooner or later.

Shockey had a great game.

Also, Reggie has 45 carries for 175 yards with a 3.9 yards per carry and 18 receptions for 144 yards. From a statistical standpoint, his impact is minimum but again, I believe he has to be on the field if the Saints want to continue to win consistently. Is it safe to say that Reggie won’t achieve the statistics you predicted earlier?

LOUIS AKA THE B-O-B REPORT RESPONDS:

It looks like my numbers were off on Reggie. But he still has 10 games to get 1025 yards rushing and 1136 yards receiving...LOL. But for real I based those numbers off of projecting a slight improvement over last years numbers he had before he got hurt. It is obvious that so far this year Sean Payton has been content with not forcing the amount of touches that Reggie Bush gets and the offense seems more efficient. I still believe that we will see his numbers increase in the second half of the season. The reason that I believe this is because in his most recent interview Reggie Bush referenced the fact that he is not getting a lot of touches, but he seemed to imply that it was partially due to them giving him time to come back from last years knee injury. Quote below:

"...I know what kind of player I am, and it's only a matter of time before it happens. I think it's unfortunate that I've been injured the past two season, but if you look at when I was healthy last year I was producing and making plays, so it takes times when you come back from those type of injuries. People want results now, and I get that. I want results now, too. However, it takes time when you come back from injuries like that because you have to get back to being yourself and you can't just pound it out right away because you have to give your body time to readjust to that pounding because it's not used that. I mean I want to go out and pound it out 25-30 times a game but I can't because I had such an extensive injury last year it's going to take me some time to get back to being myself." http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/arti...rb-reggie-bush

In reference to the sack numbers, I would like to see us have more sacks and we may not be producing a lot of sacks, but we are getting pressure on the QB. I don't think you can look at sack numbers and get a direct correlation with ints and turnovers. But I do think the number of int's and pass breakups can tell you a lot about what type of pressure a team gets on a QB, because pressure causes bad throws. Right now the Saints are #2 in passes defensed with 53 and tied for #1 in ints with 13. In the Giants game Eli's pick to Jabari Greer was a direct result of pressure. Eli's called back pick to Darren Sharper was also a result of pressure. Tracy Porter's pick in the last game was a result of pressure. You can also use big pass plays downfield to measure the amount of pressure the defense is getting and the Saints have pretty much all but eliminated the big downfield pass plays this year. Two of the three really long pass plays that I can think of were on slants (Calvin Johnson and Hartline). Desean Jacksons big play was a result of blown coverage by Roman Harper.

Also the score before the half was a big momentum boost.

INNO'S TAKE: Pacquiao vs. Cotto

DARIO AKA THE REALIST WRITES

Manny Pacquiao has a chance to win a major title in a record seventh weight class when he faces welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto on  Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has predicted a knockout by the  Filipino southpaw when he challenges Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto for the  WBO welterweight title next month. Roach had initially forecast the November 14 bout in Las Vegas would  go the full distance but he has since changed his tune because of his fighter’s impressive work in training camp. Any thoughts on Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto?

INNO RESPONDS:

Miguel Cotto had problems with the relentless pressure of Antonio Margarito. To his credit he did score an impressive knockout victory again a slick, quick, southpaw in Zab "Not so Super Anymore" Judah. Miguel Cotto typically starts off slow and the could be a detriment.

On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao in his last couple fights against someone of Cotto's Caliber (Manuel Marquez), he fought to a draw and eeked out a decision in two fights. This could mean that Cotto will pose a problem for Pacquiao as Marquez and Cotto have similar styles. The exception is that Cotto is younger and slightly faster.

With that said, I think the dynamic knockout power and Cotto's inability to slip punches will lead to a Pacquiao victory in the 6 round.
